Al Moosa Group has unveiled plans for a 24-bed, 645,834-square-foot rehabilitation and long-term care hospital in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia.

Virtual reality was used to design each major space as a means of design iteration, allowing for real-time feedback. The new facility, designed by HDR, will offer rehabilitation programs for sports injuries, bone injuries for adults and children, spinal injuries, and neural and brain injuries.

The rehabilitation and long-term care hospital will be located in Eastern Al Ahsa. It is designed as a micro village and the master plan take its inspiration from the Al-Ahsa region’s natural landform of an oasis.

Key features include a gym and pool structure with a green roof, an enclosed garden within the lobby, personalized gardens and rehabilitative green spaces at every inpatient floor of the bed tower, and more.

The project is pursuing LEED Gold certification.
