Mental Health Replacement Hospital Project Progresses In Texas
Construction on a new replacement Austin State Hospital is progressing on the 80-acre campus in Austin, Texas, according to an article in KVUE. The 240-bed project is a partnership between Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC) and Dell Medical School at the University of Texas (Austin) and will offer mental healthcare services.
The 380,000-square-foot building will have private patient rooms divided into 10 separate 24-bed units, each with therapy rooms, classrooms, exercise rooms, an arts-and-crafts room, and other therapy spaces.
The main level will include social interaction spaces, including a café, gym, music and art room, chapel and salon. Outdoor basketball and volleyball courts and walking trails are also planned.
The project team includes Page (architect; Austin).
The hospital is scheduled to open in June 2023.
