Morris Hospital (Morris, Ill.) has completed phase one of a multiphase expansion and renovation, which includes a lobby renovation and a new emergency department (ED) and infusion department.

As part of the project, the ED and other services were relocated to create a single front door and streamline wayfinding for visitors. The main reception desk and registration kiosks are positioned adjacent to the front door. A curved main concourse is located at the front of the hospital with the new ED and infusion therapy center on either end. Wayfinding was added to help guide patients and visitors to registration, surgery waiting, obstetrics, and lab/blood draw off the concourse.

The ED, made possible by the relocation of the administrative wing on the first floor, features a rapid care area for quick treatment of low-acuity patients. The number of treatment stations increased from 11 to 17, including a trauma room, 10 exam rooms, results waiting area, sexual assault nurses exam room, and two safe rooms for behavioral health patients.

The new infusion department features four private bays and one private room, with windows that allow outdoor views and natural light.

Future project phases include an enhanced entry to the hospital, a new serenity garden, renovations to cardio-diagnostics, and additional patient services.

The project, led by DesignGroup (Columbus, Ohio), is slated for completion in 2021.
