The Jefferson City Medical Group commissioned Farnsworth Group to design its new multispecialty group practice building. This design/build project, with Paric Corporation, focused on creating a major group practice setting in a small Midwestern city. The client desired a friendly, warm, inviting space to encourage patient, doctor and staff interaction to promote the physical and psychological aspects of preventive, diagnostic and active healthcare.
The facility resembles a clinic building rather than typical suites of medical offices, housing 60+ physicians. The new three-story facility accommodates group practices that include internal medicine, family offices. The design also incorporates an ambulatory surgery center with two procedure rooms, pre- and postoperative care, and staff areas practice, pediatrics, orthopedics, ENT, ophthalmology, surgery, oncology and neurology. Ancillary services located within the building include radiology, endoscopy, laboratories, pharmacy, optical shop, physical therapy (including a hydrotherapy area), medical records and business offices.
.
The goals for the Jefferson City Medical Group facility served the desire for an inviting atmosphere with small waiting areas and abundant natural light. Regulation requirements were satisfied for business occupancy in the group practice areas and for hospital occupancy in the ambulatory surgery center.
Low-maintenance materials were used for both the interior and exterior. The design provides nodes of interactive circulation and separation for patients, medical practitioners and staff.
