UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, Colo., and the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz) in Aurora, partnered with the Department of Defense (DOD) to transform a local hotel into a working prototype of an alternative medical care facility in Aurora, according to an article by beckershospitalreview.com.
The collaboration is part of a multiyear research initiative, funded by a $12.5 million grant from the DOD, to search for ways to convert existing infrastructure into hospital-level care settings for national health emergencies, according to the article.
The research project aims to “explore how existing infrastructure can be rapidly converted to provide hospital-level care in the event of a national health emergency,” according to the website kdvr.com.
The prototype, which will be in place for two weeks, features two intensive care units (ICUs), patient rooms, and a nurses’ station, as well as imaging and laboratory services. according to kdvr.com.
