Northside Hospital has started construction on an expansion and renovation of its emergency department (ED) in Atlanta, according to a news release.

The project includes 67,537 square feet of new construction across the ground and first floors, along with 7,815 square feet of renovations to the ground level. A new 17,000-square-foot parking structure with 54 spaces for ED patients is also planned.

The expanded ED will feature 18 treatment rooms, a new entry, waiting room, triage area, and space for two additional emergency care teams. A new 2-story lobby will connect the ground and first floors and provide an enclosed corridor linking the ED to the hospital’s main lobby.

The ED will remain in operation during construction, which is expected to be completed in early 2028.
