Mount Desert Island Hospital is making progress on a $55 million expansion project in Bar Harbor, Maine, according to Bar Harbor Story.

As part of the multiphase project, the hospital is set to open a new entrance to its main campus this fall.

Meanwhile, construction continues on a 42,600-square-foot critical access campus on a 5.6-acre satellite site in Bar Harbor.

A future phase of the project comprises an emergency department (ED) expansion at the main campus, tripling the size of the existing ED to 10,524 square feet. Plans call for 16 care spaces, multiple triage areas, and a new ED entrance with a covered ambulance bay.
