University of Iowa Health Care (UI Health; Iowa City, Iowa) is shifting its focus from building a new patient tower to renovating existing spaces at its campuses in Iowa City, according to a news release.
Some enabling work will continue for the development of a new $2 billion tower, such as a water tower replacement and a new roundabout connecting to the university campus, the provider states.
Meanwhile, the renovation of existing spaces, primarily at UI Health’s university and downtown campuses in Iowa City, is expected to add approximately 100 beds and expand access sooner.
UI Health also recently dedicated the new $250 million Health Sciences Academic Building, which was completed this summer, on the university campus, according to The Gazette. The 6-story, 236,000-square-foot facility connects academic and research functions with the clinical operation.
