Elgin Gastroenterology, SC Elgin, IL
This project is the addition (built-out in adjacent shell space) of an endoscopy ambulatory surgery center in an existing Gastroenterology office suite. Included are a private waiting room with two check-in stations, two procedure rooms, associated support spaces, and eight large, private, prep-recovery bays with shared toilet rooms between each pair of bays. The concept was to design a spa-like atmosphere differentiating the center from its competition and providing a high-quality, patient-focused experience.
Careful attention was paid to color and interior design elements to develop a calm, soothing palette. Exterior windows provide daylighting and outside views, while private lockers and toilet room access provide a comfortable environment for patients, family, and staff. The patient flow goes from the waiting/check-in area directly into a private room where the patient is prepared and returns for recovery.

The selection of materials complements the existing suite but provides a suitable environment for procedures. Wood-look vinyl flooring with metallic-look insets in the private bays and around nurses’ stations provides an upscale and contemporary, relaxed feeling. Decorative screens, wood casework, artwork, and rich color accents in all areas, including the procedure rooms, bring the theme into the entire environment.
