All Is Well: Designed For Living

The effort to promote and support population health and wellness has few rivals in its influence on healthcare today, inspiring the planning, design, and construction community to create environments that help providers deliver on that mission.

What Does It Really Mean To Design For Wellness?

You can’t talk about the healthcare industry today without bringing up wellness, a concept that’s been nudged to the forefront by reform, the aging population, and the demands of a more competitive market. Healthcare that focuses on total, lifelong health and not just sickness and emergencies is a rallying cry with no end in sight.

Who’s Your Design Team MVP?

A few months ago, I wrote about how our HCD 10 awards—honoring individuals across different specialties within the healthcare design field—are actually a great way to focus on the team nature of the work you do in creating healthcare environments. As we open up the nomination process for this year’s HCD 10 program, we’ve shuffled our 10 categories a bit, and we’re introducing a new category that takes this concept a little further.

It’s Time To Take Another Look at Sustainable Design

In The Center for Health Design’s column in the January/February issue of Healthcare Design, Debra Levin describes The Center’s informal efforts to capture Healthcare Design Expo & Conference attendees’ top issues of interest in 2015. Among the findings, this one caught my attention: the return of sustainable design as a key topic that keeps our industry up at night. It came in at number three; in 2014, sustainability wasn’t even included as a topic to choose from.
