$400M Replacement Hospital Breaks Ground In Alabama
Medical West Hospital Authority (Bessemer, Ala.), an affiliate of the UAB Health System (Birmingham, Ala.), broke ground on a new replacement hospital in McCalla, Ala., according to an article in Bham Now.
Situated on 46 acres, the $400 million project will replace a 1960s-era Medical West facility and include a 412,000-square-foot, nine-story hospital and a 127,000 square foot, five-story medical office building (MOB). A new surgical and endoscopy suite and intensive care beds are also planned.
The project team includes HKS (architect; Dallas), KPS (architect; Birmingham), Brasfield & Gorrie (general contractor; Birmingham), CCI (civil engineer; Birmingham), Bhate Geosciences (geotechnical engineer; Birmingham), and Building & Earth (consulting engineer; Birmingham).
The project is scheduled for completion in 2024.
