All-electric Baptist Health Sunrise Hospital Begins Construction In Florida

The 7-story, 340,000-square-foot hospital will house 100 inpatient beds and a 30-bed ED.

Baptist Health South Florida (Coral Gables, Fla.) held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on Baptist Health Sunrise Hospital in Sunrise, Fla., according to a news release.

The project comprises a 7-story, 340,000-square-foot hospital, 25,000-square-foot medical office building (MOB), and 5-story parking garage. The hospital will house 100 inpatient beds, including 10 critical care beds; a 30-bed emergency department (ED) with three triage areas; and specialty services including cancer, cardiovascular, orthopedic, and brain and spine care.

According to Baptist Health, the project represents Florida’s first all-electric medical facility, with integrated solar panels to help generate clean power, and is estimated to cost $500 million project. Completion is scheduled for 2029.

The site for the new hospital campus is on 26 acres with approximately 15 acres designated as a conservation easement, protecting existing wetlands. Landscaped walking paths and outdoor areas will connect to surrounding neighborhoods, according to the healthcare provider.
