Anoka-Metro Regional Treatment Center (AMRTC) plans to build a new psychiatric facility to replace a 1950s-era, dormitory-style facility in Anoka, Minn., according to MinneapoliMedia.
The project will increase AMRTC’s inpatient psychiatric capacity to 146 beds, offering trauma-informed treatment environments, enhanced patient privacy, and improved safety for staff and patients.
Treatment spaces will include group therapy rooms, sensory regulation spaces, clinical consultation areas, and secure outdoor recreation zones. Approximately 85 percent of interior spaces will have access to natural daylight.
BWBR (Minneapolis) is the architect on the project.
Demolition of the existing building is anticipated to start this summer, with construction expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
