Healthcare Design is excited to share that four teams were selected to advance to the final round of our 2020 Breaking Through conceptual design competition.

This is the second installment of Breaking Through, a program that encourages healthcare design innovation by asking participants to present concepts that solve the challenges anticipated in the future delivery of care by throwing out the usual restrictions tied to budget, schedule, codes, etc.

In total, 54 teams submitted initial ideas for review by the jury (see jury members here). From there, 18 were selected to move forward to the second round, where ideas were fleshed out in robust, visually rich presentations that covered the challenges identified and solutions proposed in much greater detail. The jury next selected four teams to advance to the final stage, where the concepts will be refined even further and presented during the upcoming HCD Virtual event taking place Nov. 9-12.

The finalists are:

  • Farm to Pharm, submitted by HGA
  • G.I.S.M.O/Revolutionary Design for Sensory Care and Processing, submitted by Perkins Eastman
  • Fare to Care, submitted by SmithGroup
  • Bubbles of Hope, submitted by HDR

The Breaking Through finale will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11. After presentations by each team, the live audience will choose the winner in a poll. The winning team will receive a grand prize of $10,000.

Coverage of the finalists and winner will be published in the December issue of Healthcare Design; a preview of the event will be in the November issue and include short profiles of the semifinalists’ projects. For more details and to register for HCD Virtual, visit HCDvirtual.com.
