A new $106 million emergency department (ED) and patient tower at Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, Ariz., has been completed.

The new 40,000-square-foot ED, which is projected to open in fall of 2020, will increase the hospital’s  capacity with 56 beds and the ability to handle up to 60,000 ED patients annually. The current ED has 42 beds and was built to handle 45,000 patients annually.

The first floor of the new six-story patient is slated to open in early 2021 and will feature a main lobby, gift shop, retail pharmacy, admitting desk, and chapel. The remaining five floors will remain shell space for future inpatient rooms.

The project team includes HMC Architects (architect; Phoenix) and McCarthy Building Companies (construction; Phoenix) and is using integrated project delivery.
