Baptist Medical Center Nassau has wrapped design and construction work on a new surgical unit at Baptist Medical Center Nassau in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

Gresham, Smith and Partners designed the 29,500-square-foot addition, which expands and modernizes the campus’ surgical department and relocates the existing surgery department. The expansion includes updated signage; shell space for future OR expansion; a centralized nurses’ station for the PACU and preoperative care; and the repositioning of endoscopy adjacent to surgery, allowing both suites to share recovery facilities.

The large expanse of storefront glazing brings daylight into the waiting area and a modern interior design uses a soothing palette of colors. The interior also features a large-format art installation.
