Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa., has reached a construction milestone with the start of steel work on a new patient tower at its campus, according to a news release.
The $880 million expansion comprises an 11-story tower constructed at the front of the hospital, near an expanded main entrance, as well as a new parking garage.
The tower houses an emergency department (ED) that doubles the square footage of the existing ED and increases ED beds from 45 to 60. Updated and expanded intensive care units (ICUs) will surround the ED to allow collaboration between teams.
With the addition, the hospital also plans to transition to all private beds for medical/surgical patients.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2029.
