Kaiser Permanente (Oakland, Calif.) held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on a new all-electric hospital tower to replace Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas, Ore., according to a news release.
The healthcare provider says the project will be the first fully electric hospital in Oregon.
The 7-story, 615,000-square-foot facility will house all private patient rooms, in-room telemedicine capabilities, advanced robotics and image-guided surgical equipment, and an expanded emergency department (ED).
The new tower will replace the existing medical center, which will be demolished to develop additional parking, walkways, and outdoor spaces.
The project is expected to be completed in 2029.
