Memorial Hospital (South Bend, Ind.) held a topping-out ceremony to mark the placement of the final steel structural support beam for the new patient tower on the hospital’s South Bend campus, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The $250 million project will be an adult care tower, housing 55 adult patient rooms and a new intensive care unit (ICU).

The hospital is part of Beacon Health System (South Bend), which noted in a news release that the project will span 300,000 square feet and expand the total number of adult acute care beds at the hospital from 249 to 302.

Patient rooms in the new tower will be designed to be larger than existing rooms and will feature dedicated space for families and visitors.
