Perkins&Will (Chicago) has named Jason F. McLennan as chief sustainability officer at the firm. Additionally, McLennan’s firm, McLennan Design (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), has merged with Perkins&Will.

McLennan is creator of the Living Building Challenge and co-author of the WELL building standard.

According to a release from Perkins&Will, McLennan Design will work with firm leadership and individual project teams over the next year on several initiatives, including:

  • creating new tools that facilitate regenerative design and planning across all Perkins&Will’s studios worldwide
  • expanding and advancing firmwide programs that enable significant decarbonization of buildings to help the industry meet its AIA 2030 targets early
  • leading new research into habitat impacts, biophilia, and nature-based architectural solutions
  • expanding consulting on net-zero operational carbon and lower embodied carbon buildings, as well as healthy materials
  • accelerating climate justice efforts by more closely aligning the firm’s approach to justice, equity, engagement, diversity, and inclusion with sustainability goals
