Nonprofit health system ProMedica (Toledo, Ohio) is planning to renovate and expand ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital in Monroe, Mich.

The project, called “The Cornerstone Project,” will add a new patient tower with private patient rooms at the hospital’s current site, according to the website monroenews.com.

Plans also include renovating the hospital’s existing 130 inpatient rooms, modernizing the emergency department, adding clinic and office space, and updating the hospital infrastructure.

The hospital had considered building a new hospital in Frenchtown Township, Mich., according to the website wtol.com. According to a statement from ProMedica, community members said they wanted their hospital to stay in the city of Monroe and the project’s top priority of new inpatient rooms can be accomplished by building a new replacement bed tower onto the existing campus.
