Nonprofit Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Atlantic is planning an expansion project in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

RMHC Atlantic offers accommodations to families from outside the Halifax area whose children are seeking specialized medical care at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax.

The project will increase the number of family rooms from 18 to 35.

It also adds four suites that house two bedrooms and a kitchen space. The suites will support families staying over long periods or who have children who are immunocompromised.

The ground floor of the building offers shared living and specialized program spaces, including art rooms as well as common kitchen, dining, and lounge facilities.

The communal dining area will include cooking stations for families to prepare meals.

An outdoor sanctuary, including a walled garden, outdoor courtyard, and children’s play area, is also planned.

Completion is slated for the first quarter of 2024.

The project team will comprise Montgomery Sisam Architects (architect; Toronto) and Lydon Lynch Architects (architect; Halifax).
