Nonprofit healthcare system Roper St. Francis Healthcare broke ground on the $1.2 billion Roper Hospital campus in North Charleston, S.C.

The 805,000-square-foot hospital will include inpatient beds, an emergency department (ED), critical care beds, operating rooms (ORs), a comprehensive imaging department, and a hemodialysis unit.

The project team will include architecture and interior design firm E4H Environments for Health Architecture, architecture, engineering, and planning firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, construction firm Barton Malow, and general contracting firm Edifice (Charlotte, N.C.).

Slated for completion in 2029, the campus will be the fourth location for Roper Hospital since it opened in downtown Charleston in 1856.
