Roper St. Francis Hospital Plans $193M Expansion

The South Carolina project includes a new four-story tower.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s (Charleston, S.C.) Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital in Summerville, S.C., is planning to more than double in size within four years. The expansion is part of a new strategic plan.

The healthcare system’s certificate of need was approved to build an additional four-story tower on its campus.

The $193 million project will take the hospital’s beds from 50 to 100 and add 200,000 square feet of space to the current 116,000-square-foot hospital.

It will also include:

  • 21 patient care bays in the emergency department for a total of 35
  • Four new operating rooms for a total of eight
  • Expanded pharmacy and lab areas.

The project is scheduled open by 2026.
