Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Ala., part of Brookwood Baptist Health (Birmingham, Ala.), is planning a new cardiovascular unit, according to the website shelbycountyreporter.com.

The $6 million project will house 14 beds, six of which will be intensive care unit (ICU) beds, and eight step-down beds.

The project will require the demolition and rebuilding of the hospital’s entire second floor. When it’s completed in December 2022, the new unit will allow the hospital to provide intensive and step-down care for cardiac patients within the same unit.
