South Georgia Medical Center Marks Construction Milestone In Valdosta, Georgia

The final vertical steel structural support beam is placed on the $150 million project, which includes a 3-story Women and Infants Tower, new ED, and trauma center.

South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) in Valdosta, Ga., held a topping out ceremony to mark the placement of the final vertical steel structural support beam on a $150 million main campus expansion project, according to a news release.

The project includes a 3-story Women and Infants Tower providing prenatal and postnatal care, a new emergency department (ED), and a Level III trauma center. The project will also redesign the campus to feature a new main entrance.

The project team includes Goodwin Mills Cawood (architecture and engineering; Montgomery, Ala.) and Hoar Construction (builder; Birmingham, Ala.).

Construction is expected to be completed in late 2026.
