The State of Montana is pursuing the purchase of a 114-acre site to build a new state forensic mental health hospital in Laurel, Mont., according to ktvq.com.
The project comprises a 32-bed facility to serve patients in the justice system who are waiting for a mental health evaluation to determine if they are fit to stand trial.
In 2025, the state’s legislature voted to approve the funding for a new facility to address rising demand at the state’s current facility in Warm Springs, Mont., according to the news report.
