South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (Sunderland, U.K.) is planning a $50 million project to replace the existing 1930s-era Sunderland Eye Infirmary in Sunderland.

The new specialist center will offer all the clinical services currently provided at current location, including the Regional Cataract Treatment Centre. The design will feature sensory wayfinding and landscaping to help ease navigation for the visually impaired, according to an article in the Sunderland Echo.

The project team includes Turner & Townsend (project manager; Leeds, U.K.) and Ryder (architect; London)

The new center is expected to open in 2024.
