The University of Alabama Birmingham Health System (UAB) completed construction on its new inpatient rehabilitation pavilion in Birmingham, Ala., according to a news release.

The new $156.7 million hospital facility replaces the 61-year-old Spain Rehabilitation Center. The 346,000-square-foot, 11-story tower includes seven floors of hospital space with 134 beds, three therapy gyms, and a 4-story parking deck.

A wheelchair skills room on the first floor allows patients to build confidence navigating a variety of surfaces, and a therapy courtyard features walking paths and a basketball court. Other amenities include family laundry, nourishment areas, and a respite room featuring a patient art gallery. Two outdoor terraces feature views of downtown Birmingham.

The project team includes Hoar Construction (general contractor; Birmingham, Ala.), and Gresham Smith (architect; Birmingham, Ala.).
