Nectar Allergen Clinic, New York
To deliver its flagship clinic for allergen, asthma, and eczema services in New York City, owner Nectar Allergy (New York) engaged interior design firm BHDM Design (New York) to renovate 3,400 square feet of a former medical office into a hospitable, inviting care environment.
Taking cues from its hospitality roots, BHDM sought to blend warm, modern materials and furnishings that reflect the brand’s ethos to make allergen care a positive experience for patients.
Hospitality-driven interior design
From reception and waiting areas to treatment rooms, hypoallergenic materials in fabrics, upholstery, and bespoke laminate millwork are incorporated to ensure optimal comfort for patients. A calming color palette includes the brand’s colors of green and white.
The hues are paired with the light-colored millwork throughout the clinic to foster a calming environment. A curated art program, including paper artwork cloches, framed prints, and glass-encased botanicals, gives patients a biophilic visual reference and educates them about allergens.
The clinic’s “challenge” rooms, where allergies are tested on patients and where their reactions are monitored, are outfitted with windows to allow nurses to observe patients during allergen tests. Additional spaces within the clinic include private exam rooms for single patients and families.
