First Look: Taikang Ningbo Hospital and Continuing Care Retirement Community
Taikang Community Investment Co., Ltd., is developing Taikang Ningbo Hospital and Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in Ningbo City, China. At nearly 3 million square feet, the facility will provide specialized healthcare, retirement living, and retail in a prominent, convenient location along Bai Zhang Dong Lu, one of the city’s main highways. Gresham Smith (Shanghai) is leading the design of the project.
The building’s design is modern yet timeless and, when complete, will enhance the surrounding community while becoming a landmark in Ningbo City. Each space inside the 400-bed facility will be infused with nature and have an abundance of natural light to create a calm, relaxing environment. The project team also considered operational efficiency and patient privacy when designing the space, implementing separate, strategic circulation patterns for patients, staff, and visitors.
The emergency department, operating rooms, intensive care unit, and patient rooms will be linked, and dedicated trauma access will allow critical patients to receive care more quickly.
Additionally, to support Taikang Community Investment Co.’s mission to provide comprehensive care for a lifetime, a 890,000-square foot continuing care retirement community (CCRC) will be included in the project and include a variety of amenities for independent living, including restaurants, a swimming pool, and memory garden.
Both the hospital and CCRC are expected to be completed in December 2021.
