FIRST LOOK: Orlando Health South Lake Hospital Center for Specialty Surgery
Orlando Health South Lake Hospital Center for Specialty Surgery in Clermont, Fla., will offer a unique approach for patients recovering from extensive outpatient surgeries such as orthopedic, podiatry, and pain management procedures.
The goal for the facility, scheduled to open in November, is to perform total joint replacements—long, multidiscipline surgeries that require a recovery time beyond the average outpatient procedure. However, patients here will avoid an acute care hospital stay following those surgeries by having hospitalists on staff to monitor patients requiring less than a 24-hour recovery.
The 29,000-square-foot, $8.7 million facility will be located on a large parcel immediately behind South Lake Hospital. The project is designed by RS&H (Jacksonville, Fla.), with specific program requirements, including interventional program units, four operating rooms of varied sizes with supporting clean core and restricted corridor, and two large procedure rooms.
The perioperative environment includes eight pre-operative bays, eight post-operative bays, four phase II recliner bays, and a five-bed observational unit.
