Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit has placed the first vertical steel column for its $2.2 billion expansion, according to a news release.
The project will add 1.2 million square feet in a new 21-story hospital tower.
The facility will feature all private rooms with technology upgrades, acute and intensive care unit (ICU) operating rooms, a larger emergency department (ED) with trauma care and behavioral health treatment spaces, and inpatient rehabilitation.
The facility will connect to the existing 110-year-old hospital and is expected to open in 2029. The steel frame and decking phase of construction is scheduled through spring 2026.
