Mount Sinai Medical Center – Westchester Hospital Campus, Westchester, Florida

Mount Sinai Medical Center (Miami) is collaborating with HuntonBrady Architects (Orlando, Fla.) to bring a new hospital campus to a compact, 5-acre urban property in Westchester, Fla., just outside Miami.

The property is planned as a multiphase development to give the owner flexibility to program healthcare functions as demand increases and healthcare needs evolve. Phase one includes a 112,000-square-foot, 4-story hospital building with 44 inpatient beds and a 24/7 emergency department, targeted to open in June.

Subsequent phases will complete the vertically integrated campus, including adding a 40,000-square-foot medical office building positioned on top of a 4-story parking garage.

Tilt-up construction for Westchester Hospital Campus

For the building construction, the project team is utilizing a tilt-up concrete wall system, with some panels reaching as high as 5 stories to include the rooftop penthouse. The hospital building’s square footprint provides a flexible chassis that supports long-term adaptability, allowing inpatient and outpatient programs to be efficiently configured and reconfigured within the same structure as clinical needs and care models change.

In a departure from typical site planning, the parking garage is placed at the front of the property to serve as an architectural gateway to the campus. The design cloaks the structure in a contemporary perforated screen system, transforming a utilitarian building into a visual statement for the campus.
