VA Long Beach Healthcare System (Long Beach, Calif.) is planning renovations at Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center in Long Beach, according to the website lbbusinessjournal.com.

The $387 million project will include a new mental health center to replace the current 1960s-era center and a new community living center.

The new mental health facility will include an 82,000-square-foot inpatient center with 45 beds, which is 15 more than the current facility, and an 80,000-square-foot outpatient center.

The community living center will provide assisted living services for veterans and use a small house design model. The 160,000-square-foot project will be divided into 10 houses, each with 12 residential rooms and a shared communal space . It’s scheduled to open by the end of 2023.

Also planned are an outdoor athletic complex with a basketball and tennis court, outdoor gym, and archery range for mobility-challenged veterans, as well as a new 140-stall parking lot.
