The AIA Healthcare Awards program showcases the best of healthcare building design and healthcare design-oriented research. Projects exhibit conceptual strengths that solve aesthetic, civic, urban, and social concerns, as well as the requisite functional and sustainability concerns of a hospital.
Serving as jurors for the 2009 awards were: Stephen Yundt, AIA, ACHA, of CO Architects, Los Angeles; Julie Snow, FAIA, of Julie Snow Architects, Minneapolis; Rolf Haarstad, AIA, of Hord Coplan Macht, Inc., Baltimore; Tom Howorth, FAIA, of Howorth Architects P.A., Oxford, Mississippi.
The following individuals evaluated designs in the Innovations in Research, Planning, and Design Research category: Peter Bardwell, FAIA, of Bardwell + Associates, LLC, Columbus, Ohio; David Allison, AIA, of Clemson University School of Architecture, Clemson, South Carolina; Scot Latimer, AIA, of Kurt Salmon Associates – Health Care Consulting Group, Evergreen, Colorado; and Janet Sisolak, Project Director of MD Anderson Cancer Center Capital Planning & Management, Houston.
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) honored three healthcare facilities with this year’s AAH Design Awards. The recipients were:
