The Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI; New York) has released the 2026 FGI Codes for Planning and Design and the new FGI Handbooks for Planning and Design, according to a news release.
The 2026 editions are available on FGI OneSource, a new digital platform for accessing documents and resources.
The FGI documents represent the latest consensus-based requirements and guidelines for the planning and design of hospitals, outpatient facilities, and residential care and support settings.
Among the changes in the latest edition, the FGI Codes focus exclusively, for the first time, on minimum planning and design requirements. Minimum requirements address areas such as medical/psychiatry units, rural emergency hospitals, discharged patient waiting facilities, and incident command centers.

FGI Codes at 2026 HCD Conference + Expo
The 2026 Healthcare Design Conference + Expo, to be held Oct. 17-20 in New Orleans, will feature more than 100 educational sessions, including several specifically focused on the FGI codes and guidelines. Here are some scheduled sessions:
