NICU Opens At Sentara Norfolk General Hospital

The new unit includes private and semi-private rooms.

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Va., has opened a new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Located in the hospital’s Kaufman wing on a converted medical/surgical floor, the project expanded the hospitals NICU from 47 beds to 57 beds, including private and semi-private rooms. Private rooms include sleep sofas for parents who want to stay with their newborns around the clock.

The NICU project also involved adding ventilator capacity for every bed in the NICU, four isolation rooms, and an on-site workspace for four milk technicians.
