Construction is now complete on the new four-story Rocky Mountain Regional Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Aurora, Colo. The new facility replaces the original hospital in Denver.
The 1.2 million square-foot hospital, located on a 31-acre site, provides services including a 30-bed spinal cord injury clinic, aquatic therapy, mammography and PET scans for cancer and prosthetics. There are also expanded telehealth services, polytrauma, and a traumatic brain injury unit, as well as 900,000 square feet of parking space for staff and patients.
There is a Department of Defense medical services clinic, diagnostic and treatment facilities, ambulatory care clinics, research laboratories, support facilities, and 182 inpatient beds in acute care, critical care, mental health, rehabilitation, and long-term care.
The project is targeting LEED Silver certification with features such as photovoltaic panels, earth tubes, and solar concentrators.
Project partners included TreanorHL (architect); Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (architect); Kiewit-Turner, a joint venture (general contractor); Beacon Communications (communications/AV).
