UPMC Mercy (Pittsburgh), part of the UPMC Health System, unveiled a renovated eighth floor featuring 18 acuity-adaptable patient rooms.

DesignGroup (Pittsburgh and Columbus, Ohio) led the design of the 19,900-square-foot project, which increases the hospital’s bed capacity and adds flex space to accommodate future upgrades and renovations in other units.

The new floor incorporates one isolation patient room with an anteroom. Design features include ceiling-mounted lifts, prefabricated headwalls, and nurse server units in the patient rooms; decentralized nurses’ stations with motorized integral blind window units; and entry doors with electric switchable privacy glass.
