West Virginia University Health System (WVU Medicine; Morgantown, W.Va.) announced in a news release more than $460 million in new capital projects to expand healthcare across West Virginia.
The projects comprise:
- A new $200 million patient tower at Berkeley Medical Center (Martinsburg, W.Va.) that will increase bed capacity from 190 to 316 and is expected to open in 2028;
- a $60 million, 3-story ambulatory campus expansion at Jefferson Medical Center (Ranson, W.Va.) that is anticipated to open in late 2027 and will include medical office space, ancillary services, and shell space;
- the new $122 million, 4-story WVU Cancer Institute Regional Cancer Center on the former Ohio Valley Medical Center site in Wheeling, W.Va., that is expected to be completed in the fall of 2028, consolidating services from Wheeling Hospital (Wheeling) and Reynolds Memorial Hospital (Glen Dale, W.Va.) including infusion therapy, radiation oncology, imaging, labs, and specialty clinics;
- the new 21,000-square-foot WVU Medicine Children’s Outpatient Pediatrics Clinic on the campus of Wheeling Hospital, expected to open in late 2026, that will include 38 exam rooms; dedicated well- and sick-child zones, lab and imaging spaces, lactation rooms, after-hours care, and a playroom;
- a new 2-story outpatient surgery center adjacent to United Hospital Center (Bridgeport, W.Va.) that is anticipated to open in the winter of 2026 and will include eight operating rooms (ORs), pre- and post-operative recovery areas, same-day total joint replacement, and shell space;
- a $16 million outpatient services expansion and renovation at Summersville Regional Medical Center (Summersville, W.Va.) that is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2026 and will offer rehabilitation therapies, cardiac rehab, nuclear medicine, and a pharmacy.
