Bitehaus Hillsdale, Toronto

Building on the success of Bitehaus Dental’s first location in Toronto, the organization again engaged Prop Architecture (Toronto) on the design of its second location in Ontario’s capital city, which opened in May 2022.

One of the biggest design considerations was addressing the space’s wide storefront and creating a design that looks cohesive when viewed from the outside and inside flows from one side to the next. The solution was to create angles, including in the clearstory windows and decorative wall elements, which start low on either end and reach a peak in the middle of the clinic.

Natural materials and light create a calming environment for patients

To create an inviting atmosphere that would be calming for patients and staff, the interior design utilizes natural materials and greenery. For example, wood floor tiles, green moss walls, and forest green cabinetry are used in the reception and waiting area as well as the consultation room and clinical spaces.

Furthermore, the design prioritizes natural light, including transom windows in some of the operatories that help bring light to the back of the clinic. To control for southern sunlight exposure, a pattern of metal slats in three bronze colors on the front windows are used to shade some of the sunlight coming into the clinic.
