The winter garden provides a flexible space for visitors and includes restaurants, coffee shops, a multifaith center, education center, and a large exhibition and event space. The ETFE “pillow” covering has a high tensile strength and allows warm air to filter through in the summer to cool the building but creates a cushion of air that helps warm the space in the winter.
