Children’s Nebraska Specialty Pediatric Center Art Installation, Omaha, Neb.
Seeking an interactive and immersive art installation in its lobby, Children’s Nebraska Specialty Pediatric Center in Omaha, Neb., engaged Placzek Studios (Omaha) to create the “Bear Canyon” art installation.
The interactive feature comprises a hand-painted, 30-foot metal tree sculpture adorned with 150 vibrant acrylic leaves (some as large as 4 feet in diameter) and 20 bronze-sculpted woodland creatures, including an owl, fox, and family of raccoons who inhabit the tree, and bronze bear sculptures playing underneath. A woodland stream designed with glass and lit by LED adds to the setting.
More than 40 bronze bear sculptures also can be found in public spaces throughout the hospital, including elevator bays and waiting areas.
According to the studio, “each animal, leaf, and texture were carefully crafted to tell a story and connect with young visitors and their families.”
