In a beautiful Mediterranean-inspired setting, complete with a soothing water wall, NorthEast Medical Center’s Café 920 serves as a haven for patients, visitors and staff. The cafeteria is a place within the hospital where people go to revive themselves, talk through their feelings and share their experiences with others. The Medical Center wanted to give its employees a better look and feel for their breaks, because they work hard and deserve that consideration.

Located in the heart of the Medical Center, this 16,350-square-foot expansion and renovation includes a new kitchen, prep areas, dry and refrigerated storage, dishwashing area and state-of-the-art servery. Using an existing emergency room area and kitchen-equipped trailer, the cafeteria was able to provide 24-hour service during construction, as well as successfully completing an unexpected OSHA inspection and triannual survey by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations

.

Café 920 was designed with slate floors, cherry finishes and brick arches to blend with the existing hospital architecture. Columns were used to allow multiple ceiling planes and lighting combinations, creating an individual identity for each serving station. Carpet tile, installed in a diagonal pattern, defines traffic flow from the serving stations through the dining area and back to the Medical Arts Center.

Café 920’s new design has been enthusiastically welcomed within the community. Its anticipated market share has been exceeded with a nearly 30% revenue increase.
