Kaiser Permanente Breaks Ground On Railyards Medical Center In Sacramento, California

The campus will house a full-service, 8-story, 662,050-square-foot hospital with 310 beds and 14 ORs, a 70-bay ED, ICU, NICU, and labor and delivery services.

Kaiser Permanente (Oakland, Calif.) held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on Railyards Medical Center on an 18-acre site in downtown Sacramento, Calif., according to a news release.

The campus will be anchored by an 8-story, 662,050-square-foot hospital with 310 beds and 14 operating rooms (ORs), a 70-bay emergency department (ED), intensive care unit (ICU), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and labor and delivery services.

The project also will include a 5-story, 173,000-square-foot medical office building (MOB) with 66 exam rooms, as well as laboratory, pharmacy, imaging, and diagnostic services. A 7-story, 1,500-stall parking structure will also be built to serve the medical center.

The project team includes SmithGroup (San Francisco) as the architect and designer.
