Upstate Medical University (Syracuse, N.Y.) is seeking bids on a project to build an emergency department (ED) annex that is expected to take up an entire city block and connect to the main hospital in Syracuse, according to syracuse.com.

The project will include new operating rooms, intensive care unit (ICU) beds, a partial imaging suite with medical and diagnostic imaging, labs, and radiology. The design also will include shell space for future expansion.

Four existing buildings are expected to be razed, including twin 10-story towers which are former dormitories converted to office space, a campus activities building with a pool and workout areas, and the Center for Bioethics and Humanities, housing a department of the College of Medicine. Upstate Medical University says it will relocate the occupants of those buildings.
