In this session, attendees will learn how UC Davis Health and design and architecture firm SmithGroup employed a progressive design-build approach to deliver its 48X Complex, one of the largest and most advanced surgery centers in the U.S., in just 45 months.
E17 – Transformative Team Dynamics: A New Approach to Authentic Partnering, Sunday, Oct. 26, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
Takeaways from this session will include ways to eliminate subconscious biases on project teams to focus on actionable resolutions and navigate challenges to communication and collaboration. Speakers will outline a four-phased approach to establishing and maintaining productive team dynamics among project partners.
E28 – New OR/Procedure/Exam Room Toolkit: Coming from FGI in 2026!, Sunday, Oct. 26, 2-3 p.m.
Panelists will break down the latest Facility Guidelines Institute’s Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals. This session will provide attendees with a toolkit for plotting out the number and size of operating, procedure, and exam rooms in a new-build hospital project.
E39 – From Crisis to Care: A Design-build Case Study of Rapid ICU Expansion, Sunday, Oct. 26, 3:15-4:15 p.m.
This session will offer an in-depth look at a 10-month renovation that expanded critical care capacity by delivering two new intensive care units at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Attendees will learn strategies for design-build techniques, phased construction, and integrated coordination plans.

During this session, presenters will discuss key factors driving the latest revision to Facility Guidelines Institute’s codes and guidelines for project planning, construction phasing, determining room types, and new facility types.

This presentation will guide attendees in understanding the latest revisions to life safety requirements set by local codes and authorities having jurisdiction. Attendees will learn what changes are making an impact on both projects at existing facilities and new builds.
