Novant Health Plans $1B In New Construction, Renovation Projects In Wilmington, North Carolina

The plan includes a new heart and vascular patient tower at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Novant Health (Winston-Salem, N.C.) has received approval from its board of trustees for a master facility plan for $1 billion in new construction and renovation projects in the Wilmington, N.C., region, according to a news release.

Additionally, the ground and first floors of New Hanover Regional Medical Center will be reconfigured to optimize clinical space, supporting expansions in areas such as endoscopy and surgical services.

The plan includes a new heart and vascular patient tower at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington with inpatient beds, surgical spaces for minimally invasive and complex surgical procedures, cardiac catheterization labs, and electrophysiology labs. The project will be built in place of the existing Novant Health New Hanover Rehabilitation Hospital.

Additionally, the health system plans to build a 60-bed rehabilitation hospital on the 15-acre Wrightsville Avenue campus that includes the Novant Health New Hanover Orthopedic Hospital in Wilmington.

An 80,000-square-foot heart and vascular medical office building will also be constructed in Wilmington.

The master facility plan will be completed in phases over several years, with the new heart and vascular tower projected to open in 2031.
