Oriel Eye Health Center Planned For London

The 425,000-square-foot facility will house clinical, research, and educational spaces.

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (London), the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology (London), and Moorfields Eye Charity (London) are planning a new eye health center for clinicians, researchers, and educators as part of a larger masterplan for the St Pancras Hospital in London.

The new 425,174-square-foot Oriel facility will include a central atrium and two departmental wings and will be designed to flex and accommodate various activities over time. Staff and research spaces will include workspaces, meeting rooms, and study spaces.

The facility will be situated in proximity to other health and research institutes in London, including the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation, Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Wellcome Trust, and the Francis Crick Institute.

The project team includes AECOM (project manager; London), Penoyre & Prasad, a studio of Perkins&Will London (lead architect; London), and White Arkitekter (interior designer and landscape architect; London and Stockholm).
